Studying the statements of Christ for his book "The Greatest Words Ever Spoken completely shifted Steven K. Scott's perspective and view of what Christianity was all about. For him Christianity was all about the doctrines that he possessed in his mind. But as he began to really study what Jesus said he found something completely different. Christianity out of God's mouth was not about doctrine it was about following Him, discovering and doing what He said.
"If anyone will come after me let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:23
"My sheep listen to my voice and I know them and they follow me." John 10:27
If you love me you will do what I say. Christ boils down following Him to doing what He said. The word Christian wasn't around for a few years even after Christ, they were simply followers of Jesus. The focus of following of Christ is discovering what Jesus said.
