Our theme this year at 100 Huntley Street is 10,000 Reasons. This month we focus on 10,000 to Witness.
There are many scriptures that tell us to witness but we also need to remember that there is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to shun. Eternity is a long time to be apart from God and loved ones.
Beth shares that when she was a new believer she was fired up for God and wanted her family and friends to know the same Jesus she knew but she didn't feel effective as a witness. She felt that there were people who were meant o be a witness but not her, she wouldn't be good at it.
The truth it all of us can testify (witness) just by telling our story.
One day when her mother and sisters came to visit her and they went for a drive in the car. She knew she wanted to share her faith. Her family was so on her heart and this was her chance. She waited for the open door in the conversation, when they started discussing eternity.
She decided to share with her mom John 14:6
Her mom turned to her and said,
"You mean to tell me, if I don't except Jesus Christ, as my personal Lord and Savior, I could spend eternity in Hell-apart from God?"
Her mom got it, and kept asking Beth the same question and Beth continued to share John14:6 with her mom. Her mom then said,
"If that's true, if you believe that, and you thought I had the chance of spending eternity apart from God and our family… then why did it take you a year and a half to share this?"
She got it and gave her life to Christ. Beth was prepared for the arguments but she wanted to know the truth and ever since then that has been a motivator for Beth to witness. She wondered who else was in her life to witness to. She shares that she still has people in her life she has not shared the gospel with that she needs to. We need to be bold and be reminded about eternity.
Beth also shares the story of grocery shopping with her 4 kids when they were all preschoolers. She was at the checkout and she looked around and realized she was missing one. Her daughter Annie was gone. She started screaming at the top of her lungs. She knew she needed to find this lost child.
She didn't stand at the checkout counter and casually wonder where Annie was. She didn't decide it was okay, she had 3 out of the 4 of her children, and she had the majority.
NO, there was no way she was leaving the store without her child!
Prayer: Father, thank you for stirring us up, help us be a good witness, a bold witness for Jesus Christ. Thank You for the privilege. In Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen
Oh and by the way! They found Annie in the cereal aisle!
