"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41
There are a thousand books that will tell you that in
order to lose weight you have to expend more calories than you take in. Healthy
living is not just about eating and exercise. Focus, friends and faith are the
secret sauce to the Daniel Plan.
With the following three steps to overcoming temptation break through an addiction, an attraction or a compulsion.
STEP 1 - AVOID IT
The best way to
deal with temptation is to NOT put yourself in tempting situations.
If
you want to gain self-control, you need to predetermine your pattern of
temptation. Ask yourself:
- WHEN am I most likely to be tempted?
- WHERE am I most tempted?
- WHO is with me when I am most
tempted?
- WHAT temporary benefits am I going to receive from the temptation?
STEP 2 - DO NOT RESIST, INSTEAD REFOCUS
Whatever you resist persists. Often, when a person continually tries to resists something, it only builds itself deeper into that person's life. Instead of obsessing over resisting your temptation, acknowledge it and find something to replace it with.
STEP 3 - ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
Everybody needs a buddy. The Daniel Plan cannot be done by yourself. You
can overcome temptations more effective when you have someone that you can
confess and turn to whenever those temptations rise up within you.
