The nominees have been announced for the 45th
annual GMA Dove Awards, taking place Tuesday, October 7th at
Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. The goal of the awards is to expose, promote
and celebrate the gospel through music, and this year's ceremony is shaping up
to do just that.
Writer and producer Wayne Haun leads the way with nominations
in ten different categories, including major category Producer of the Year. Hillsong
United, Lecrae, Mandisa and Matt Maher are all nominated for five awards each.
Hillsong is up for awards in major
categories Song of the Year (Oceans), Artist of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Song
of the Year (Oceans), and Worship Song of the Year (again, Oceans).
is a favorite to win Artist of the Year, and is up for collaborations on Gospel
Song of the Year "Help" by Erica Campbell, Rap/Hip Hop Song of the Year, and
Contemporary Gospel/Urban Song of the Year.
Along with Lecrae and Hillsong United,
Mandisa is up for Artist of the Year, as well as Contemporary Christian Performance
of the Year, Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year, Short Form Video of the Year,
and Song of the Year for her song "Overcomer".
Finally, Matt Maher is also nominated
for Song of the Year, Contemporary Christian Performance of the Year,
Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year, Inspirational Song of the Year, and Worship
Song of the Year.
The Awards will be hosted by Lecrae, fresh off his #1
Billboard Top 200 release Anomaly. Lecrae
will be joined by MercyMe frontman Bart Millard, and both hosts will also perform
