I'm calling it my first Christmas card, and it has to be shared! Making space for a single letter could be your visual sanity saver this holiday season.
The timely gift comes to us from a national treasure who returns to 100 Huntley Street on November 18th!
Ann Voskamp first appeared in 2012 on the day she learned that her first book, One Thousand Gifts had made the New York Times Bestseller list. It stayed there for 60 weeks, influencing thousands to count their blessings. The farm wife from Gowanstown, Ontario, who still homeschools four of her six children is employing her studies in psychology and education to reach a global classroom through her blog and books.
Last Christmas she delivered another bestseller, The Greatest Gift-Unwrapping the Full Love Story of Christmas. The follow-up for 2014 is a fabulous family adventure through the Advent calendar - Unwrapping The Greatest Gift - A Family Celebration of Christmas, complete with beautiful color pictures, family activities and craft items that can be downloaded.
Many of us sigh in anticipation of the frantic thing we have made Christmas, and long for sweetness and serenity, hoping to move past obligations and overindulging, to recover the wonder that leads to worship. Ann has done so much to enhance the meaning and significance that can get us there.
Here's her heart—
"I don't want a Christmas you can buy…I want a Christmas that whispers, JESUS."
Honouring Christ in the celebration of His birthday this year might be assisted by another bestselling author. Lysa Terkeurst joins us November 19, 20 and 21 with The Best Yes. She writes:
"If I want things about my life to change, if I want to change the way I use the world's two most powerful words, yes and no…I have to change my approach to the way I make decisions."
I'm starting NOW to choose to make space in my PACE… watch… here it comes… P ACE. Now I'm adding the key to a true Christmas this year, E is for Emmanuel, which means "God with us", as the angel told Mary (Matthew 1:23). P E ACE is the wondrous outcome! And what greater gift can the Prince of Peace give us this Christmas? Peace with God through His life, death and resurrection, when we receive the Gift of Christmas, Jesus, as Lord and Saviour (John 1:12) and the peace of God when we cultivate a lifestyle that practices His Presence and follows His lead.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Liz Curtis Higgs loves Ann's work. Her personal affirmation was poignant; "You're lyricist. I hear music all through your words…they take me out of the here and now, to a place I want to go."
Sounds inviting eh? Now just drop that h… and keep that E in your Christmas!
