She also writes the free, Basics Daily Devo for over 4000 subscribers. Beth's mission is simple: "I want people be found guilty of having God's fingerprints all over their lives! If I can help people get a grip on the basics of God's Word in such a way that it becomes more than the greatest sounding, religious theory they've ever heard - I know I've done my job."
A widowed single mother with two boys was on the verge of bankruptcy but God completely turned her life around and turned her into a maven! A maven is a champion, a superstar, a sensation! A maven is someone who is supernaturally successful!
2 Kings 4: She went to the prophet Elisha and said to him "My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves." In response, the prophet asked her four questions:
What do you want?
What do you have?
What will you do?
Why will you do it?
What do you want? The core of what she wanted was her sons. What she needed was more money to pay the creditors. He got to her core desire. What is your core desire? that intrinsic motivation? The real desire may not be more money, but instead the freedom that more money would provide. Get to the heart of that core desire.
What do you have? God doesn't use what we don't have. The woman in 2 Kings said she had nothing but a pot of oil. But this pot of oil could be used. Often we minimize what we have, but God can use even the smallest amount of money, skill, or ability.
What will you do? He told her to go borrow from her neighbours and to go sell the oil. Often we have to ask the question: What are we willing to do with what we have? We can borrow ideas and resources, and ways other people found success. Take what you have and go and do something with it.
Why will you do it? The Prophet said to go sell the oil, pay the debts and live on the rest. God also wants us to use our influence and wealth to influence the gospel. In 1 Timothy 6, it says "God gives us richly all things to enjoy and that we would be generous and give to others."
