"Joy Smith, member of Parliament, was joined by survivors of human trafficking/forced prostitution, and front line organizations who worked with victims to highlight the impact of Bill C-36 on women in prostitution. Bill C-36's targeting of pimps and johns is a significant leap forward for Canada. Survivors and front-line organizations have already expressed their appreciation of this new approach."
(June 12, 2014 Press Release)
Bill C-36 is the first in Canada because prostitution has been legal in this country for the longest time. So for the first time, Canada has made the buying of sex illegal in an effort to dry up the market. This is a compassionate bill - it reflects compassion on the victims and goes after the predators.
The whole goal is to provide an opportunity for people to get out of trafficking or prostitution.
