When you work very hard on a project and it succeeds, do you attribute the OUTCOME to YOUR efforts or the grace of God? Jesus declared in John 15:5, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; FOR WITHOUT ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING." I remind myself of this fact every time I undertake any endeavor. This passage helps us to guard against feeling inadequate for a task on one hand-- as well as being filled with pride and self-confidence on the other.
Haughtiness is one of the most destructive attitudes there is. Why? Because God hates it. It robs him of his glory when we attempt to take personal credit for what we could not have ACHIEVED without him. Proverbs 16:18 declares "Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall"
What is the object of your pride? Is it your possessions? Your place in society? Your position on your job? Your great looks? Do you really believe you got these things on your own?
If you are ready to rid haughtiness from your life, ask the Holy Spirit to change your MIND-SET about who you are and the limitations of your ABILITIES.
NEXT, Understand the THREE benefits of walking in humility:
1) LOVE AND ADMIRATION. Haughtiness and pride repel, but people love and admire those who demonstrate humility.
2) PERSONAL PEACE. Those who have humbled themselves and submitted to their God ordained destiny have nothing to prove—they are not anxious about protecting their ego or image.
3) TRUST AND RESPECT. Because humble people look out for the good of others, people respect their input and decisions and do not suspect them of selfish motives.
You see, it pays to be humble.
