During the exclusive backstage interview at K-Love Fan Awards, Chris Tomlin admits to 100 Huntley Street US reporter Tanner Keith that Garth Brooks is one person that he would love to work with in the whole music industry. Chris has always thought that Garth has a way of connecting with people and his songs are really special.
The international success that Chris Tomlin is having was something that he had never dreamt of. When Chris wrote his first song, We Fall Down, his friend Louie Giglio said to him, "Chris, the whole world is going to sing that song." Chris just brushed that comment off.
Yet Louie was right. People started sending him emails of the different translations of the song and it was then when he realized what God was doing through the song.
With a humble and prayerful heart, Chris prays for favour over the songs that he writes, that people can sense God's presence through the songs.
"I try to write simply. I try to write songs that are simple so that they can find their way into different cultures that don't play music like we play here but somehow they kind of make it their own. That's pretty special."
Despite touring internationally, Chris recognizes that being a worship leader, the songs that he writes are for worship, for the congregation, for people to sing. It helps to lead worship on Sundays because he can tell which songs have an impact on people and which ones missed the mark.
As he puts it, God's plan is for the church and that's where the songs have to come from.
