When God gives us a gift, we have to be careful to hold that gift with open hands. Sometimes when the gift is really good, we want to close our fingers around it and hold onto it so that we will never lose it. And we begin to find our identity in that gift. You may begin a new job or get into a certain program and start saying "That's who I am; I am this role that I have been given." When that happens, God often has to pry our little fingers off of that gift so that we don't start worshiping it instead of Him. The bible says that anything we put above God in our lives, is an idol and when we start to worship the gifts He's given us than we are committing idolatry and we are missing the whole point. The whole point is that God wants our heart, and He wants to be close to us and to partner with us. That's the powerful stuff. When we partner with Jesus and with His supernatural power inside of us, we can accomplish amazing things. He can use us to change the world, to change our hearts and that's why it's so important to continue to worship the dream giver, and not the dream.
