Dave Addison is the Executive Director at Toronto City Mission. He has devoted his life in the last few years to helping others and that is a personal story for him.
Dave says that he lived the corporate life. In worldly measures, he was very successful but he was very broken. He was 300 pounds, filling the hole in his soul with food and drink, and greatly depressed but not recognizing it. He needed Salvation.
In 2010, he felt called to do something more in the "not-for-profit world". He felt his gifting in the corporate world and didn't know what a ministry role would be like. But by the grace of God, he was placed at Toronto City Mission.
Celebrating over 135 years, Toronto City Mission's roots were in relief but now they are focused on the preventative and proactive side with a focus on children and families. Their core programs are after school programs, homework help, camps, and teen leadership to disciple and raise up kids. In all their programs they share the gospel. Toronto City Mission is a relational ministry, focused on building relationships.
The city is constantly changing and there are a lot of obstacles facing families today making it hard to be a kid sometimes. Many families are broken, and kids are growing up without proper role models in their lives. There are such great influences and pressures on kids today, like gang activity, drugs, and bullying. Having God in their lives is not common for many kids.
What are the key ingredients to see change and progress? They believe relationship is key so they can share the word and act as the hands and feet of Christ. Opportunities are endless when you accept the Lord.
