Heidi and Rolland Baker are founders of Iris Global, an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the Great Commission around the world. . Today Heidi serves as Director of "Iris Ministries" which has a children's centre, 80 churches, a medical clinic, a school, and soon a Bible college.
All this success and growth did not come easy for the Bakers. There were tough times when Heidi was on the verge of giving it all up. It was the love that she has for Jesus, and His love for her, that brought her back to the mission field.
How will the world be like, if we all stopped for the one? Just once a day, for one person. Then perhaps there won't be any more suicide, depression or starvation. Everyone will have the love of God. A simple and powerful act of love that can be accomplished through each and every one of us.
If we are to do that just by our sheer will, we will most likely be burnt out and tired after some time. Therefore, it is crucial for us to stop for the One, our Lord and Savior. By stopping first for God, loving and spending time with Him, He will raise up the compassion for our neighbours. In loving Him and feeling His heartbeat, we will grow in our love and compassion for others too.
When you are totally in love with God, you are not afraid to go and do all that He wants you to do. Yet, to reach this place of intimacy with Him, takes time and sacrifice. He needs to be in everything in your life, not just staying in the prayer closet. Sometimes it may mean sacrificing something to receive something even better.
Jesus gave us the first commandment in Mark 12:30, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment."
Everything else falls into place after this one commandment. Love the Lord your God with everything that you have, with every bit of strength, push on and fight to keep that love for God burning no matter what happens.
And when you are in love with Jesus, you will push forward in all that He wants you to do. You will start loving the people around you. You will then stop for the one who is right in front of you and let His love work through you.
