Jefferson Bethke grew up in a religious household, but like many children raised in a Christian home, his faith didn't become his own until college. It's easy to grow up knowing what rules to follow or how to act at church on a Sunday, but it can be a difficult transition to go beyond your parent's belief system and actually have your heart changed by the gospel.
This transition came after a tough time for Bethke, as his high school years were ones of token teenage rebellion. It wasn't until after high school that he realized both Religion and Rebellion are "distortions and off track from what Jesus really came to bring." When he started actually reading his Bible, he realized that Jesus' message is about another "R".
Not Religion or Rebellion, but Relationship.
