Ted Kluck is the author of several books, on topics ranging from Mike Tyson to the Emergent Church. Both Why We're Not Emergent and Why We Love the Church (with Kevin DeYoung) won Christianity Today Book of the Year awards, and Paper Tiger: One Athlete's Journey to the Underbelly of Pro Football won a Michigan Notable Book award in 2008. His work has also appeared in ESPN the Magazine and Christianity Today.
While Ted has played professional indoor football, football became a broken dream and for most of his 30s, he had felt "lonely and hopeless". He traveled to the "dark places", hoping to draw inspirations from it, only to end up wallowing in it for a while. Yet God did not stop pursuing him and pulling him back into the light.
Self-idolatry was one of the big issues he had to deal with over his life and thus getting out of the Facebook world, where one gets affirmation from each "like" that one gets, was one of the best decisions he ever made.
Instead of being cynical after all the failures and disappointments in his life, he came to a point where he can truly say Jesus is His only hope, comfort and joy.
