Kevin Pauls caught up with Eddie Carswell & Russ Lee of Newsong at the No Greater Love Music Festival this past weekend. The band-mates explain what their faith means to them and the joy that sharing the love of Jesus brings to their career.
NewSong has always made a point to talk about their faith in a way that many bands shy away from. They stand up in the midst of having fun and creating great music to tell what God has been doing in their lives.
Russ Lee joins his entire band in being adamant in the practice of sharing the gospel. The number one thing that has shaped his faith is seeing the things that God has done in his life. Looking back, it's amazing to see how God was working. Russ used to be a drug dealer who came from a very broken home with an alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother. However, God turned his life around and plucked him from the middle of nowhere in Tennessee and planted him on a tour bus. Oftentimes, there were tasks or lessons that Russ would never have thought that he would need, and the very fact that he is a part of this band is a miracle. Throughout his life, Russ has found trusting God gives him the opportunity to relax because he doesn't need to figure everything out. After years of being a Christian, he's found that God can be trusted. He's big enough to be intimate with us in our brokenness.
