In this first segment, Moira Brown and Dr. Craig Evans arrived on Mount Zion, outside the wall of the old city of Jerusalem. It is where the only academic excavation that is going on in Jerusalem at this time.
As Dr. Evans quickly points out, this is a very significant location. In the time of Jesus, wealthy people lived here, including the aristocratic priests and the high priest. So right now, the academics want to know as much as they can about this home that they have dug down into.
The home was destroyed by the Romans and the scholar believe that the home was from the 1st century. The significance of that is that the family that lived in this home, would have been one of those that had opposed and feared Jesus. Jesus brought a message that incites change. Yet the people living here liked the way things were. They didn't want change.
Due to the fact that the top part of the house was burnt down by the Romans, it collapsed and sealed the lower parts, keeping most of the house intact.
