You have probably heard the old saying when it rains it pours. Sharlene and Chad Dickson were married for a short time when it seemed like every health scare imaginable came their way attacking their growing family. From surviving cancer; a brain tumour; two organ transplants and miscarriages. They are still standing and are here today to share how God ushered them through each trial reaffirming their faith in Him.
Chad and Sharlene began their relationship when they met at church. Six months later they were married. Together, Chad and Sharlene moved ten times in the span of two years. They had two children in eighteen months. Around that time, Sharlene found out that she had cancer. Depression soon followed in her life. "I was so thin and frail, I felt like butter spread over too much bread."
Sharlene got pregnant again with her son Felix, who was born with some health challenges. Felix looked great for the first few weeks. Then Chad and Sharlene found out that Felix had pneumonia. The doctors informed them that their son had a shrinking of the liver ducts, which eventually results in death of the liver.
Nine months after Felix was born, Chad found out that he tumour in his brain on last day before Christmas vacation. David had headaches at his job and a co-worker drove him to a walk in clinic, where he became unconscious and later woke up with a bandage around his head, after he woke up from an emergency surgery.
After that event, Chad and Sharlene had experienced a couple more miscarriages. Then they had their baby girl Cora, who after three days of birth, she was dehydrated as a result of the nature of her kidneys. The Doctors were flushing out water and was determined that Cora had significant kidney issues. "At that point is was like, what is going on? It hit hard. How do you deal with your faith in the midst of all this? God showed that he was with us. Faith was a necessity. I don't feel that I was angry with God but I was angry at the enemy" explains Sharlene.
One night, Felix went into his parent's bedroom throwing up blood, he was rushed to the hospital where they found out that Felix needed a liver transplant. Chad offered to donate. A week later, Felix had the transplant on his birthday. A couple years later. Chad and Sharlene found out that Cora needed a kidney transplant. Chad offered to donate one of his kidneys.
"In the end God knows everything that you are going to be facing. He has called us to overcome" says Sharlene.
