Hailing from Oshawa, Ontario, Terry Posthumus is an innovative Canadian artist, activist and speaker. His story involves the heart-crushing loss of two of his children, and then his wife Lorraine passed away in 2013 after a 3-year battle with cancer. With 5 children to raise, Terry has been completely dependent on God for grace, wisdom and provision. God did that and more. God brought into Terry's life another wonderful woman and today Terry and his family are thriving under God's amazing grace. This experience has reshaped Terry's perspective of ministry and he aspires to advocacy and activism on behalf of impoverished children. Terry is known for lyrics that are introspective, inspirational and insightful. His gravelly voice and his command of his instrument has captivated audiences near and far - with performances that have been described as "rootsy", engaging and delightful. His passion for life, love, family, faith and justice is woven into the very fabric of his songs and stories.
Terry grew up in a Christian home, where he went to church twice on Sunday. Like anything else, you still have to make your own decision which Terry made at 18. Christian music was the door to his faith. When I was a young many my step father took the records and threw them out as they were not Christian music. He took Terry to the Christian book store and gave him 100 dollars to get Christian music. Terry started to play and record but then he stopped playing music as a result of some traumatic events. His father died early in Terry's life. Terry has lost three children as well.
"I remember standing at my sons grave site and being really angry at God. I did not feel God pull back but I felt him say to me I know your pain. A lot of the songs from my first CD came from those events. My wife lost a three year battle with cancer. My daughter turned 5 the day after my wife died. I gave up the whole notion of being in ministry. I am here today to share the restoration and grace" explains Terry.
Worship is a pushback for Terry, "there is something that we can do in the midst of grief. God has shown himself faithful. It is an absolute miracle, Jessica has come and saved my life again, how is it even possible that this could be?"
Terry is has recently released a new album. He is also releasing an advent album soon.
