Thus says the Lord:
"Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me?
And where is the place of My rest?
For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,"
Says the Lord.
"But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.
In this passage, God is telling us the kind of person He is looking for. It is no secret that God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. Jesus began the greatest sermon ever with the beatitudes (Matt 5:3-12) is by listing all the various characters - the type of person who knows the need of the Lord.
The proud without Christ don't want Christ. They reject God. From a salvation standpoint, they have no need for God to save them from sins that they don't see.
On the other hand, pride in a believer quenches the work of the Holy Spirit within us. It hinders us from hearing His still small voice.
Our foundation determines the blessing, the maturity and who we are in life. Our character is that foundation. That is what God looks at.
