Seeking Older, Wiser Counsel With Joy Eggerichs

"Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding… Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them". (Proverbs 4:1,5)

In Proverbs, we are commanded to seek wisdom. This is not something that is merely recommended or advised, but something that we must do to follow the path of righteousness.

Joy Eggerichs is quick to remind her viewers and listeners of this command, and it is one she has tried to follow in her own life, often entering into public conversations with her father in order to sort through some of the tough issues surrounding faith, marriage, and relationships. One of the most common questions she has received regarding relationship advice is "why did no one tell us this twenty years ago?" Love and Respect Now is an attempt to answer the important questions before it's too late.

For Eggerichs, there is freedom found in seeking wisdom and in "living relationships in the light", a phrase that she uses to explain the value of conversations with older, wiser Christians. Sometimes we need someone on the outside to encourage us to look past another's flaws, or to point out the red flags in a relationship. That's why it's important to let the wisdom of older counsel speak into your lives.

Dear God, sometimes my "testing" season seems so long. Please give me courage to endure until the end. Help me not to bail! You said you would bless me for hanging in there - I will not give up on you or your promises. You are with me and will see me through this trial.
