There's going to be 4 blood moons occurring in 2014-2015. It's a name for a total lunar eclipse. It's an astronomical event that will happen.
This is called a Tetrad - a set of 4 total lunar eclipses within 2 years.
What is causing many people to wonder about these lunar eclipses is that all 4 of them will fall on a major Jewish festival - the Passover and the feast of the Tabernacles in both 2014 and 2015. The bible does talk about the moon turning into blood in the end times. But does this mean anything?
Bible prophecy expert, Dr. Mark Hitchcock cautions that while it is fascinating that these blood moons are happening on the Jewish feast days, we should not set dates from this or expect something really significant to happen during this time. The bible simply does not tell us those things.
There have been 8 of such tetrads in the past, where the blood moons falls consecutively on Jewish Feast days. What people have been trying to do is to go back and show how these relate to significant events to the nation of Israel in the past.
One of such occurrence was in 1493-1494, and 1492 was when the great expulsion of Jewish people out of Spain by the edict of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella occurred. This was a significant event for the Jews but it happened before the blood moons.
Similarly, the next tetrad happened in 1949-1950. And as many would know, 1948 was when the nation of Israel was established. Once again, the blood moons happened after the event.
The next occurrence of the blood moons was in 1967-1968 which does coincide with the Six Day War that ended with the Jewish state capturing the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank, Golan Heights and control over Jerusalem. This occurred between the first and second of the blood moons.
Thus, many people are saying that something very significant is going to happen to Israel in 2014 or 2015.
In his book, Blood Moons Rising, Dr. Mark Hitchcock writes about 3 different type of views with it comes to signs of the end times.
The first group of people will be the Skeptics. They do not believe in any notion of signs of the end times. The second group is the Sensationalists. They believe that signs are everywhere but often do not base their speculation on sound biblical principles.
The approach that Dr. Mark Hitchcock takes belongs to the third group - Stage Setting. The stage has to be set for the events of the end times. One of the "super sign" that he has observed in the recent years is the re-gathering of the nation of Israel. Israel has to be back in their land and they have to be a nation because most of the end times prophecies hinge on Israel's existence.
(Read Ezekiel 38 and 39 for more prophecies about the end times)
As believers and followers of Christ, we need to have a sense of urgency.
In the book of Hebrews, it says not to forsake "the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much more as you see the Day approaching." (Heb 10:25)
This would mean that we would be able to see the Day drawing near. We do not want to live in fear or frantic, but we should live with a sense of urgency in our spiritual life and go out to accomplish what we are called to do.
The coming of the Lord is a purifying hope. It's a comforting hope, a motivating hope and a calming hope. There is nothing more comforting to know in these end days that the Lord Jesus is coming back some day and deliver us from the coming wrath.
"Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." - 1 John 3:3
