The Daniel Plan Day 30: Making Your Calories Count

Many people are not a big fan of counting calories. Janet Jacks, founder of Goodness Me! Natural Food Markets, is certainly one of them. Instead of counting calories, which takes a lot of will-power and "don'ts", she urges people to recognize and respect the power of food to change what's going on in our body. Counting calories doesn't really work. We should choose the food that nourishes our body.

So what is the purpose of food? Janet emphasizes that food should be for PLEASURE and for NOURISHMENT. They are not mutually exclusive at all and can occur at the same time. Food can taste fantastic and have nourishment for our body.

Super-Nourish Your Body to Health

1)      Have enough protein - about the size of the palm of your hand for every meal. When you are talking about animal food, the better environment the animals are in growing up, the better it is for our body.

2)      Have lots of colours, lots of vegetables - A variety of colours to fill up half the plate. We need to have fats too, to make us feel more satisfied. Some of the fats that we can use are olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil etc.
