Shelly Calcagno, Director of Family Ministries here at Crossroads, holds the topic of adoption near and dear to her heart. Shelly has always brought tons of fun and joy with her craft, cooking and reading segments. She loves to help families create moments with their kids and help the children grow in their faith.
Behind that sweet smile though, lies a hurt that is not known to many people. Shelly is an adopted child, who spent the first 6 weeks of her life in foster care.
Fortunately, at 6 weeks old, she was adopted by an amazing
family with the greatest parents ever.
Even so, the one thing that Shelly had to struggle all through her life is rejection. She had believed the lie that she was rejected the minute she was born, even though her family loved and accepts her.
"My life started off in a little bit of sadness, but God redeems our pain and takes the hard things in our life and turns them into good things."
Looking back now, Shelly sees the hand of God upon her life every step of the way, healing those wounds and redeeming the pains.
Now, she can smile confidently, knowing that she is well loved by a Heavenly Father who would never forsake her, and a family who treasures her.
