Alan was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and moved to Canada at the age of 10. He became an ordained minister in 1984, and started working as a Chaplin in Corrections shortly after College. His personal experience led him to become an addictions worker, and has helped him develop strategies to reach youth who do not respond well to traditional forms of support. Alan's belief in youth development and mentorship caused him to start Living Rock Ministries.
Here, Alan and his wife talk about their youth-focused suicide prevention event leading up to World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th.
