What is Bill C-36?
Bill C-36 is an answer to a Supreme Court ruling that rendered all the laws around prostitution as unconstitutional.
Prostitution has always been legal in this country, but the laws around it has been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Therefore, it gave the parliament a year to address the concerns. From it came Bill C-36.
For the first time in Canada, the buying of sex will be illegal if this bill passes. The bill targets the pimps and the johns. This is also a compassionate bill for the victims. It has 20 million dollars attached for its programs, so that trafficked victims and prostitutes can exit and have their lives rebuilt. Counselling, rehabilitation and education programs are all part of it.
It is very important for the Christians and people all over the country to write to the Prime Minister and Peter McKay in support of this bill. There will be a lot of push back on this as people do not want their source of revenue cut off.
