Today's encouragement comes from Psalm 37 verse 7 which says "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him." When the worst day of you life arrives the pain can be intense and the loneliness can be unbearable."
What has the worst day of your life looked like?
During a four-hour plane flight home several years ago, the anticipation of seeing his beloved wife, was all Derrick could think of. The year previous had been a dream year, so Derrick had thought. With trips around the world with his wife, a book that became very successful, children moving on and his wife finishing her degree in school, it seemed like life was the best it had ever been. After 30 years of marriage, Derrick was soon to discover that he had lost my wife.
Returning home from a weekend trip, Derrick's eldest son met him at the airport. It seemed strange that his wife was not there, he knew something was wrong. They had talked the day before. He dropped Derrick off at their home. As he glanced around their newly purchased condominium, bought for the next stage of their life, holding tight his bouquet of flowers, Derrick thought to himself, It's very quiet.
Ahead on the kitchen table was a white envelope that contained the answer to his confusion. It was staring fully at him, and it was the only thing that greeted him. Suddenly he felt a numbness over his heart and soul as he read these words, "Dear Derrick, I have been seeing other men, I have been living a double life...I am so sorry." One little note on the kitchen table announcing her infidelity changed Derrick's life instantly. In Psalm 38 verse 21 his prayer was like David's, who wrote this psalm, "Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God." In the moment of betrayal, the worst day of his life, Derrick again realized that God's grace is sufficient. Even in his lowest moments God was there. It takes courage to move through the worst day of your life.
