On August 19, 2012, Annaleise Carr became the youngest person to swim across Lake Ontario following the traditional Marilyn Bell route (considered one of the most difficult open water swims in the world) at the age of 14. She was deeply impacted at the work done by Camp Trillium and wanted to help raise money and awareness for it. Camp Trillium is a camp dedicated to children struggling with cancer. It is the only camp in Canada that is opened not only to the children but also their families because they believe that "when one person in the family is affected by cancer, the whole family is."
Annaleise also became the youngest person to join the "24 Hour Club," which includes all swimmers completing a marathon swim of 24 hours or longer (her swim lasted 26 hours 41 minutes through "grueling and wild conditions").
The journey doesn't end just yet. This year, 16-year-old Annaleise will be attempting the record breaking 75km swim across Lake Erie on July 25th, 2014!
